TRAINING in Interpreting & Translation

Do you depend more and more every day on your bilingual staff to provide ad hoc interpreting and translation services? With the best of intentions they form a vital communication link between medical providers and non-English speaking patients, often with no prior translation or interpretation training.

The Berkeley Language Institute provides a training in translating and interpreting. These condensed, intensive courses are specifically designed for employees who are required to perform on-the-job translation and interpretation and wish to enhance or assess their skills through formal training.

Language Training Program (LTP) for medical staff

To implement a Language Training Program (LTP), the Berkeley Language Institute will help you assessing your language needs and implement the LTP based on these needs. We take into consideration various parameters such as your linguistic goals, your financial and time constraints, and of course meeting compliances.

Once the program in place, a periodic review of the protocols will be scheduled to ensure that they are followed. A report will be provided after each audit.

Classes are small, personalized and offered at your facility for your convenience. Our training series begins with a four-hour course on the theory of translation and/or interpretation followed by two additional four hour courses on ethics and cultural awareness and sensitivity.

These courses are taught in English. The introductory trainings are followed by 12-hour practical, hands-on courses taught in specific languages such as Arabic, Chinese, Farsi, French and Spanish, or any languages depending on demand with an emphasis on medical terminology: general, oncology, cardiology etc...

All students will receive a certificate of completion.

Our instructors have years of experience providing language services to prestigious medical institutions such as the University of California San Francisco, Stanford University and at countless private practices throughout the United States.
