This is an introductory course for people who are thinking about
entering the field of interpretation, who are required to do some
interpretation work on their job and desire formal training, or for
consumers and contractors of interpretation work who wish to know more
about the process itself, so they can become better consumers of these
services.
You will learn the principles of interpretation, what it is and
should be, and the pitfalls of interpretation. We will begin the class
with a brief history of interpretation and theories of interpretation.
We will also look at what a professional interpreter should know, to
inspire respect for this difficult, exacting, and highly satisfying
profession. We will conclude with in-class examples of the different
skills in interpretation. This assignment, should serve as a starting
point for students wishing to continue with the Spanish Interpretation
Level 1 course.
